That old saying "life is bittersweet" runs true in our small community. Sadly in recent years, the bitterness has been more than that of the sweet and the reality of that is sometimes a hard "pill" to swallow.
Alvo has gone through many hardships but that hasn't discouraged new homeowners from deciding to make Alvo the place of their newest adventure. Just over the summer several homes/properties have changed ownership. I encourage you to take the time to introduce yourself to your new neighbors or simply say hello to your old ones the next time you see them.
In last week's newsletter, the Alvo community participated in the poll with "Alvo local happenings" being the topic of most interest. Below is a list of things that have happened recently in Alvo.
- Alvo Planning and Zoning seats are filled
- Alvo Village Clerk position is filled, vacated, and filled
- Alvo water tower's well and pump house continues with repairs and improvements
- Alvo community website gets a makeover
- Alvo receives ARPA (American Resue Plan Act) funds
- Alvo Village continues with litigation in Cass County District Court
- Alvo Board of Trustees member Gary Marco gives updates on past due Village of Alvo Loans: Go Municipal Building Bond Loan, Highway Allocation Loan, and Water Revenue Loan
- Lagoon road is repaired
- Application for CDBG (Community Development Block Grants) is requested
- Nebraska Auditor of Public Accounts notifies Village and Board of Trustees Chairperson in Village's Audit Waiver Request of Misappropriation of highway allocation, highway incentive, and motor vehicle fee payments
- NDEE conducts continuous review @ 310 Harrison St.
- Alvo Board of Trustee Chairperson gets petitioned for recall
- Alvo residents receive Boil Water Notice due to E. coli bacteria in the water
WOW, well... that's a lot! Attending meetings, talking to people in the community, and staying engaged will only benefit Alvo's community. For your safety don't forget to boil your water before using/drinking!
