"Words of kindness"

I would like to start this weeks' newsletter out with a big thank you to all of the wonderful people who took the time to send me emails introducing themselves and welcoming me into this new position. It was very kind of you all and I truly appreciate it!

As the famous Mister Rogers once said, "How many times have you noticed that it’s the little quiet moments in the midst of life that seem to give the rest extra-special meaning?”

Fred Rogers, the host of the television series Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood https://www.vox.com/first-person/2018/7/26/17616380/fred-rogers-documentary-2018-mister-rogers-neighborhood

That quote sat deep with me this past Friday as my children were off for school. Friday was the first time all three have attended school. I sat in my home quietly feeling uneased and saddened by the thought of how quickly time had been flying by. How unusual it felt to not hear a giggle, the pitter-patter, well more of the stomping of my children running throughout the house. Eagerly waiting to pick them up from school I decided to start a new family tradition, ice cream after the first day of school. Which gives way to the first topic of this week's newsletter, school is back in session. Fletcher Ave. is a busy road, not only in the Alvo community but as a whole. Many times it is easy to forget there is a speed difference between the county portion and the Alvo limits. From the stories I've been today, Alvo's community didn't always have children, and the time periods it did, it was not many. Presently there are many children in the Alvo community, remembering to slow down, watch for children, school busses, and even pets is important. Within the Alvo community, both District 145 and Elmwood-Murdock Public Schools, have various stops and many children being picked up along the way, slowing down and paying a little extra attention is important.

Topic two is revamping the Village of Alvo site. I am in the process of updating presently and hope to provide the community with a site that is more user-friendly, provides more information and guidance, and helps new residents. This weeks' agenda primarily consisted of setting an outline for site design changes and updating the business directory. Fill out the poll below for topics of YOUR interest, if none of the pre-generated topics interests you, feel free to input yours into the "others" box. Results will be shared in next weeks' newsletter. I look forward to hearing from each one of you!

In other news, Alvo's local trash and waste removal provider, Rock Creek Refuse added a new truck to their fleet. It may be small, but you know what they say, "Big things come in small packages". This new addition will provide them a safer, more reliable, and quieter ride. Keep an eye out for them because you won't hear them coming!
