Final Four Shows at the Lofte!!
Review of December 7th Production
Bring the kids to this one - both you and they will have a hoot. Kevin Colbert directed 44 young actors and 11 adults in another outstanding production at the Lofte. In addition to rehearsing, he was also the bathroom and drinking water monitor. Act one started off a little slow, but when Grace Bradley loses it as the church pageant director toward the end, the pace picks up and never slows down. The scene changes are handled as part of the action by the actors, which seems to be a trend in live theater. Ken Snyder's uncomplicated sets were again meticulously constructed and he didn't pay me for mentioning him. There's an angel choir - great voices. There are the Herdman kids, who are the local rotten kids "good" kids warn their parents about.
This is the final production for the 2013 season, so get your buns over to Manely for one of the final four shows - you'll laugh out loud among strangers and it'll be OK.
Kevin met quite a challenge with all the youngsters and he did a great job.
All the young actors were either excellent or outstanding and the "church ladies" were funny.
Tess and Noah Arent as the Bradley kids - who also narrated the story - were exceptional, as was Kabrianna Mumford as the snarky "good girl" Alice (villains are always the best parts). Mia Thomas was authentic both as Imogene Herdman and the non-speaking Mary - she nailed both. Adeline Mogenson's Angel of the Lord stole the scenes she was in. Cordale Moxey had great diction and outstanding projection. The Angel Choir's voices were, well, angelic. If Talon Flodman and Samuel Gauthier are anything like their characters Leroy and Ralph, I'm glad they don't live next door.
Great job, all of you!!

Worst Best Christmas Pageant Ever"
Cigars in the ladies room? Drinking the communion wine? Will Christmas ever be the same? You may find that it's even better! The beloved children's story, 'The Best Christmas Pageant Ever," will open on the Lofte's main stage on Saturday, November 30.
Based upon the book written by Barbara Robinson, this is the story of the six rough-and-tumble Herdman kids who bully their way into the annual Sunday School Nativity play. The church ladies, the Reverend and even the volunteer fire department are sure this will be the worst Christmas pageant ever, but the Sunday School teacher remains stubbornly optimistic. The production is filled with youthful energy and a true spirit of Christmas.
The production is directed by Kevin Colbert. Starring as the pageant director and her husband are Anne Pope and Scott Nielsen of Eagle. Their children, Charlie and Beth help to narrate the story, and are played by real-life brother and sister Noah and Tess Arent of Murdock. The Herdmans are played by Mia Thomas of Bellevue, Samuel Gauthier and Adeline Morgenson of Louisville, Talon Flodman and Gus Pope of Eagle and Xander Monson of Brock. In all, there are fifty-six people in the play. Forty-four of them are children!
The production will run November 30, December 1, 6-8 and 12-15. Curtain times are at 7:30pm except for Sundays which are 2pm matinees. Tickets are $17 for adults and only $10 for children under 12. For reservations, please call the Lofte box office at 402.234.2553.
