1887 - George Bernard Shaw was beaten by police during a protest against repression in Ireland - known as "Bloody Sunday".

1956 - The US Supreme Court ruled Montgomery, Alabama's segregation ordinance was unconstitutional (after a 381 day boycott of the bus system by blacks that was started when Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat to a redneck).

1775 - American forces capture Montreal from the British.

1986 - President Ronald Reagan confesses that weapons were sold to Iran.
