Severe weather time is here - stay alert. Broadcast television and radio stations will issue watches and warnings. A battery powered weather radio provides alert tones and voice messages quicker. There are many apps for smart phones and tablets - many of them free. The outdoor siren will be activated by Cass County Sheriff's Dispatch Center, Emergency Management Office or by Alvo Fire and Rescue members. REMEMBER! - there is NO all clear signal. The siren is tested the first Saturday of every month unless the National Weather Service has issued a severe weather alert.
You can STILL help - donate to the McNaught Relief Fund opened by the American Exchange Bank at 151 North 4th Street in Elmwood, NE 68349. What makes this part of the county special is that we help one another.

Also, since spring is here we need to share the county roads and highways with the people who produce our food. Farm equipment DOES own the road because of its size. Big tractors pulling extremely large (and wide) planters, field cultivators and fertilizer applicators; large high-boy sprayers (no, your Beetle woun't fit under them); floaters (big low pressure tires) and large flat bed semis loaded with seed and chemicals are moving along the road; parking almost on the shoulder and making turns into field drives should keep you on your toes. By the way, the big green (or red) tractor will weigh in above 33000 pounds, which is almost 10 times as much as a 2016 Camaro. Who will win in a game of bumper cars? Watch for the flashing yellow lights, reflectors and slow moving vehicle signs and remember, they will only be going 20-25 mph on the road.
