1965 - Soviets sign a pact to send more aid to Hanoi.- I have a sample of that aid, the tail fin assembly of a 82mm mortar mortar round that blew the back door of the operations building open one night in Ban me Thuot

September 24th, 1960 - The first nuclear powered aircraft carrier was launched. The USS Enterprise set out from Newport News, VA. - She was commissioned on November 25th, 1960 and inactivated December 1st, 2012 - the longest service of any US Navy ship.bigE1

1993 - Three decades of Israeli occupation of West Bank cities ended with the signing of a pact by Israel and the PLO.

September 24th is National Cherries Jubilee Day.

September 25th, 1983 - A Soviet military officer, Stanislav Petrov, averted a potential worldwide nuclear war. He declared a false alarm after a U.S. attack was detected by a Soviet early warning system. It was later discovered the alarms had been set off when the satellite warning system mistakenly interpreted sunlight reflections off clouds as the presence of enemy missiles. - He's a true hero.

1992 In Orlando, FL a judge ruled in favor of 12-year-old Gregory Kingsley. He had sought a divorce from his biological parents.

September 25th is National Comic Book and, this year, Native American Day. (fourth Friday of September) - I bet the natives would like to have input into the immigration debate.

September 26th, 1960 - The first televised debate between presidential candidates Richard M. Nixon and John F. Kennedy took place in Chicago. - Nixon's makeup people didn't do him any good, plus he had the eloquence of Donald Trump..

September 26th is Johnny Appleseed and this year, International Rabbit Day. (IRD is celebrated on the fourt Saturday in September.)

September 27th, 1973 - Vice President Spiro Agnew said he would not resign after he pled "no contest" to a charge of tax evasion. He did resign on October 10th.

2004 - North Korean Vice Foreign Minister Choe Su Hon announced that North Korea had turned plutonium from 8,000 spent nuclear fuel rods into nuclear weapons. He also said that the weapons were to serve as a deterrent against increasing U.S. nuclear threats and to prevent nuclear war in northeast Asia. The U.S. State Department noted that the U.S. has repeatedly said that the U.S. has no plans to attack North Korea.

September 28th, 1850 - U.S. President Millard Fillmore named Brigham Young the first governor of Utah territory. In 1857, U.S. President James Buchanan removed Young from the position.

September 28th is Ask a a Stupid Question and National Good Neighbor Day.

September 29th, 1962 - President Kennedy nationalized the Mississippi National guard in response to city officials defying federal court orders. The orders had been to enroll James Meredith at the University of Mississippi.
