Good news - Nebraska's abnormally dry area is the same as the week before.  We  STILL need to conserve water as we move into the hotter, drier months.

July 29th, 1975 - OAS (Organization of American States) members voted to lift collective sanctions against Cuba. The US government welcomed the action and announced its intention to open serious discussions with Cuba on normalization.

 July 30th, 1945 - The USS Indianapolis was torpedoed by a Japanese submarine. The ship had just delivered key components of the Hiroshima atomic bomb to the Pacific island of Tinian. Only 316 out of 1,196 men aboard survived the attack.

July 31st, 1792 - The cornerstone of the U.S. Mint in Philadelphia, PA, was laid. It was the first building to be used only as a U.S. government building.

1982 - Larry Walters ("Lawnchair Larry") took flight in his homeade airship that consisted of a lawnchair with 45 helium-filled weather balloons attached to it. He stayed in flight for about an hour.
