A word to the wise - if you don't have a written burn permit signed by the Fire Chief, Assistant Chief or Firefighter, you can't legally burn. Text messages or verbal cell phone requests do NOT give you permission to burn. Chief's cell - 402-326-1714; Asst. Chief's cell - 402-867-4291 Training Officer's cell - 402-432-5018 Arrange a time to come to the Fire Station at 135 Main Street in Alvo and pick up your permit. Burning without a permit is a Class IV misdemeanor.

Nebraska 63 construction from Alvo south to US 34 is continuing - watch for construction people and equipment. Plan on delays due to single lane traffic with a pilot car. Also, traffic on 1st, Main and 2nd will increase due to contractors loading their water supply trucks at the 2nd and Main hydrant. Keep your eyes off the smartphone and on the road, please

Recycling pickups are on the first and third Tuesdays of each month. Remember to not include the non-recyclable material listed in last week's newsletter.

Good news - there are no more moderate drought acres and the abnormally dry areas in the northeast have dropped from 10.7 % to 2.2 %. We still need to conserve our water as we move into the hotter drier months.
