What happened this week in the past.....
April 8th, 1985 - India filed suit against Union Carbide for the Bhopal gas leak that killed over 3,000 people. It took 25 years for the courts to find 7 Indian executives guilty and fine them approximately $2,000 each. Union Carbide's US CEO jumped bail and lives in a million dollar house on Long Island. $470 million was paid out to survivors and families of fatalities in 1989. The site has not been decontaminated.
April 9th, 1947 - 169 people were killed and 1,300 were injured by a series of tornadoes in Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas. It's that time of year again.
April 10th, 2002 - Former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke before the U.S. Senate as a representative of the Israeli government. He warned that suicide bombers would spread to the U.S. if Israel was not allowed to finish its military offensive in the West Bank. Netanyaho also cited the goals of dismantling the terror regime and expelling Arafat from the region, ridding the Palestinian territories of terrorist weapons and establishing "physical barriers" to protect Israelis from future Palestinian attacks. - Sounds very familiar, didn't he use the fear factor in his speeches last week?
April 11th, 1945 - During World War II, American soldiers liberated the Nazi concentration camp of Buchenwald in Germany. - Some still STILL don't believe that 6,000,000 Jewish men, women and children were killed by those thugs.
April 12th, 1985 - Federal inspectors declared that four animals of the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus were not unicorns. They were goats with horns that had been surgically implanted. - Boy I bet that burst a lot of bubbles.
April 13th, 1970 - An oxygen tank exploded on Apollo 13, preventing a planned moon landing. - "Houston, we have a probelm."
April 14th, 1865 - President Lincoln was shot by John Wilkes Booth in the Ford Theater and died the next morning.
"The point is that there is tremendous hypocrisy among the Christian right. And I think that Christian voters should start looking at global warming and extreme poverty as a religious issue that speaks to the culture of life." - Al Franken
"Reagan and Bush... made the world safe for hypocrisy." - Julia Phillips
