"Sister Act" is the first production of the Glenn Korff Broadway Series, which is made possible by his estate gift of $ 4 million dollars to the UN-L School of Music.
A Broadway musical in Lincoln doesn't happen very often. We went Tuesday night and were enthralled by the sheer quality of the voices from the leads to the supporting cast. It's probably better if you're Catholic - you'll get the humor faster than the rest of us. The choreography was very tight and the songs were great. The 5 piece band overpowered the singers a bit in the first act, but the second act blended very well. Costuming - over the top. Sets - gorgeous. The opening number by the nuns' chorus was deliberately atonal - made me wonder if they could actually sing. Every chorus song after that was flawless. Sister Mary Robert (Emily Kay Shrader) may be small in stature, but has a big voice. Even the bad guys (Kolby Kindle, F. Tyler Burnet, Nicholas Alexander Rodriguez and Lawrence Dandridge) could sing and dance. Mother Superior (Magie Clennon Reberg) put her conflicting emotions into all her solos. Deloris/Sister Mary Clarence (Kerissa Arringtion) overpowered the band and never missed a note. Buy tickets. Go. Enjoy.
Even the bad guys could sing and dance!
5 days and counting, you can't register for this election, but if you're registered you can vote early or next Tuesday!
You will need Adobe Reader to open these files. Get Adobe Reader Here
Also, registered voters still have time to request an early voting ballot - the deadline for requesting a ballot to be mailed to you is TODAY (October 29th) by 4:00 PM CDT. You can request an early ballot in person until Monday, November 3rd by 5:00 PM CST. Early ballots must be returned to the Election Office by 8:00 PM CST on election day, November 4th. OR you can make a trip to the Election Office at 201 Main Street (east of the courthouse on the south side of Main) to vote in person before election day.
Cass County Sample Ballots
These images contain all the candidates on the federal, state, county and local ballots. You will NOT see all the candidates on your ballot when you vote, since local candidates vary due to where you live within Cass County as follows: county district (county commissioner), school district (school board), village (village board), natural resource district (subdistrict), or community college (district).
Please take the time to find out about the candidates on your ballot - many politicians are elected because they are the only name listed for an office. You don't have to blacken the oval if you don't want to vote for an individual. Leaving the oval blank doesn't invalidate your ballot. Consider this - the local boards (village, school, county, community college and NRDs) all directly affect your tax burden.

Only parts of three counties still abnormally dry....
On October 21, 2013, 86.65% of Nebraska was in a drought condition. In January of this year the drought still coverd 86.32% of the state. That is why there were so many field fires duing the winter and early spring. Take a look at the rest of the country - Texas and California are in really bad shape.
Completely Useless Facts - Again....
The slogan on New Hampshire license plates is "Live Free or Die" - the plates are made by inmates of the state prison. Do they see the irony?
Thirty-five percent of the people who use personal ads for dating are already married. They likely cheat on their income taxes, too.
Over 75% of the people who read this will try to lick their elbow. I did not.
Dueling is legal in Paraguay as long as both parties are blood donors. Seems reasonable to me.
Halloween will be this Friday......
So let's be careful. If you are a trick or treater, wear a bright reflective costume, carry a flashlight and especially here in Alvo, where we have three sidewalks, walk facing oncoming traffic. Drivers - watch out for the little ghosts and goblins that are on the streets. Parents, go with your youngsters so you can check out the treats. If you are a treat giver, individually wrapped treats are a good idea. I saw a great idea on another web site - if you want the kids to remember you, give them full size candy bars - their parents will hate you, but the kids will think you are great and their dentists will love you.
Along with football, soup suppers and Halloween, October is Fire Protection Month and the time to check, clean and change the battery or batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. Since you probably threw away the instruction manual when you got your alarm(s), here are some links to get you the information you need. Two sites have manuals for most alarms and one is the National Fire Protection Association guidelines for installing and maintaining alarms. When your alarm activates, get out! - then call 911. When there is adequate fuel and oxygen fire can double in size every minute in a room.
For this to do its job........................................................you need to do your job
