The Polar Bears Won!

brrrrrr                           graphics-polar-bears-748934

It all depends on your point of view - the drive through teller at an anonymous bank likes the cold, because you can always put on more clothes; when it gets hot you reach a point where you can't take any more off. Typing slower today because the station furnace is malfunctioning - 55 degrees F. Now that's warm compared to 7 below zero with a 15 below wind chill - but I admit I'm a warm weather person which means that Nebraska is too far north for my liking. Both Jeff Dunham and Wayne Brady commented on our winter temperatures during their respective shows. Mr. Brady was here Saturday night and called Nebraskans "very hardy people." He did question why he saw one young man down town wearing cargo shorts and tennis shoes (it was 5 degrees in Lincoln Saturday and that was at 2:00 PM. We might be warming up - a bit this week, but there is still plenty of opportunity for ice and snow.

Community Survey

This is required by state and federal government to be eligible for grant assistance for community projects - street improvements, upgrading water and sewer systems, development and home improvement. So - when a volunteer brings you the form, please complete it fully and honestly, seal it in the envelope and return it to the volunteer. All the returned surveys are processed by the Southeast Nebraska Development District. NO BOARD OR PLANNING COMMISSION MEMBERS WILL SEE THE COMPLETED FORMS. SENDD staff will evaluate the responses and issue a summary report of what YOU the citizens of Alvo think is most important to community improvement.

Have Mower - Will Mow?

The Village Board will accept proposals for mowing village property as follows: Fire and Rescue Station grounds, Alvo Park, well and water tower grounds - and once the grass grows, the village lot at 215 Main Street (where the old fire barn stood). Successful applicants will provide liability insurance, mow a maximum of once per week, not let grass exceed 6 inches in height, trim around fences and structures and not blow grass clippings against buildings and structures and a flat monthly rate. Please return proposals to the Village Clerk by March 31st.

How about a splash park?

Would anyone be interested in improving the Alvo Park? This was one suggestion after the Board Meeting. This is a potential use of grant funding.
