Better late than never.

Alvo Fire Department and Eagle Fire Department have responded to eight fires since January 1st, with three since the last newsletter. A heartfelt "THANK YOU" to Southeast Rural Fire Department for their help on the overnight hay fire on Sunday and again on Monday and to Bennett Rural Fire Department for the daytime help on Monday.

Ambulance Animated

Alvo Rescue has responded to six rescue calls, two fire standbys and one special duty this year, with one rescue, two fire standbys and the special duty since the last newsletter.

There seems to be an emerging pattern to these fires, not only in the Eagle-Alvo Rural District but in other rural districts. Most of the field, brush and hay fires seem to occur one or two days after a controlled burn and/or on weekends. Some of them are of suspicious origin.

Please be alert to unfamiliar vehicles, especially in rural areas - make a note of color, make, model and license number and the date you saw them. If a fire starts near and shortly after where you saw them, investigators can identify and interview the vehicle's owner.

Fires in rural areas can cost the district residents money in higher fire taxes. Counting-money-animation

A gentle reminder - Alvo Fire Chief Koutecky will not issue burn permits until we get at least an inch of rain or foot of snow and there is no wind forecast for your burn date.

Another reminder - Alvo Fire Department will stand by at a large controlled burn in case it gets out of control.

Please, please, please help the editor out - let me know about your club, association, board, organization or personal activities. Such information shows community activity and engagement of our residents.

Once again - the Alvo community extends far beyond our corporate limits.

Thank you in advance - Dave

Read a very interesting book by a former Navy SEAL who helped kill Osama Bin Laden. "No Easy Day" gives an unclassified inside look at a special operator's life and details the operation targeting Bin Laden. Well written, since a co-author helped him with the big words.

High Flight
"Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth,
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed and joined the tumbling mirth of sun-split clouds -
and done a hundred things You have not dreamed of -
wheeled and soared and swung high in the sunlit silence.
Hovering there I've chased the shouting wind along
and flung my eager craft through footless halls of air."

"Up, up the long delirious burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace,
where never lark, or even eagle, flew;
and, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
the high untrespassed sanctity of space,
put out my hand and touched the face of God."
