N-63 Alvo North Project is Underway!

 Barricades are up!

If you choose to ignore the barricades, whatever happens to your ride is on you, since NE 63 is closed from Alvo to Church Road.

The construction will start at the north edge of Alvo and continue north to Bluff Road, then from Bluff north to Church Road. The proposed work schedule is 10 hour days, 6 days a week. Access to the Alvo Cemetery will be provided as needed for maintenance and funerals. Copies of the construction schedule are available at the Village Office along with business cards for Casey Wisness, project manager. His phone number is 712-898-1787.

Nebraska Department of Transportation Detour Map

According to the map, the intersection of 63 and Church Road will be closed, so getting on or off the Interstate will add a bunch of miles if you want to stay on state highways.

The second phase will begin Monday, March 19th, 2018.  During this phase, N-63 will be closed to traffic from Reference Post 4+20 to Reference Post 9+68.  A detour will be marked for through traffic for this phase. During the construction, a temporary access road will be provided for the Alvo Cemetery.

Knife River Construction is the primary contractor and Casey Wisness is the project manager. His phone number is 712-898-1787.

The project is anticipated to be completed by November 2018.

The Department’s project manager for this project is Jesse De Los Santos of Lincoln.  Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously through construction work zones.

This notice is directed toward those who flushed their shop towels, baby wipes and other non-degradable items down their toilets - the Village has to replace two pumps at the sewage lagoon to the tune of $10,000. That will cause delays in working on required improvements to the drinking water system. This will cost everyone in town when new sewer and water rates are set.

Rural Fire Board meeting dates are scheduled for the second Tuesday of each month for 2018. Next meeting is May 8th at 7:30 at the Alvo Fire and Rescue Station, 135 Main Street, Alvo, NE

Not much change this week - 61 counties are at normal moisture levels (down 1 from last week); 14 are normal to abnormally dry (up 1); 5 are abnormally dry or moderate drought.  Nuckolls County is over 90% in moderate drought conditions. Maybe it's finally warmed enough so we get more rain. There are no severe drought conditions anywhere in our state.

Nationally, Arkansas, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Massachusetts, Mississippi, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Vermont, Washington, West Virginia and Puerto Rico have normal moisture levels. Things are better in the Northeast and Midwest. Gained one more state, Washington improved to normal moisture level.

Living in Puerto Rico still is hard. Click on either image to see how Nebraska compares to other states.
