December 1, 2017 (Lincoln, Neb.) — N-63 is scheduled to be re-opened to traffic on December 1. This completes Phase I of a 2 Phase project, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation. The section of N-63 closed this year was approximately one-half mile south of I-80 and consisted of box culvert construction, re-alignment of the existing highway and erosion control items. Minor work, like seeding and erosion control installation, may still be performed.
The second phase will begin in March 2018. During this phase, N-63 will be closed to traffic from Reference Post 4+20 to Reference Post 9+68. A detour will be marked for through traffic for this phase.
The project is anticipated to be completed by November 2018.

Dry areas increased this week - only 84 counties have normal moisture; 4 are now normal to abnormally dry, 1 is abnormally dry to moderate drought, 4 range from normal to moderate drought with abnormally dry areas as well. There are no severe drought conditions anywhere in our state. However - the southwest panhandle is facing long term abnormally dry to moderate drought conditions, meaning the dry spell lasts more than six months. Nationally 12 states (Michigan, Kentucky, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, West Virginia, Ohio, Washington, Oregon and Alaska - and the territory of Puerto Rico) have normal moisture levels. Puerto Rico still has very little electricity and clean drinking water. Click on the image to see how Nebraska compares to other states.
