Alvo is looking for a contract laborer for general maintenance and repairs as determined by the Village Board. Anyone interested may apply at the Clerk's Office on Saturdays from 0800-1200. Applicants are required to carry their own insurance.


Playground Equipment for Sale!

Bids for playground equipment we don't have enough space to install will be accepted by mail or at the Village Office. Buyer is responsible for loading and transport of equipment. As is. Can be seen at the basketball court next to Alvo Fire & Rescue Station, 135 Main Street, Alvo, NE.

As someone who has heard real fireworks up close, I'm not a fan of amateur explosive specialists trying out Chinese gunpowder, especially if they (you) have altered their (your) mind set with various chemicals. So again, if you are alive and can read this, good for you - if you are reading this with one eye or having to use the keyboard one - handed, consider a more mellow approach to celebrating Independence Day in 2018. - Dave



This week only 22 counties have normal soil moisture levels. Abnormally dry conditions cover the central 75% of the state. If this continues, our state will return to the Great American Desert that early pioneers thought existed here.There are now only 18 states with normal conditions in the entire country. Jul 6th, 1983 - The Supreme Court ruled that retirement plans could not pay women smaller monthly payments solely because of their gender.

Jul 8th 1881 - Edward Berner, druggist in Two Rivers, WI, poured chocolate syrup on ice cream in a dish. To this time chocolate syrup had only been used for making ice-cream sodas.

Jul 9th, 1868 - The 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was ratified. The amendment was designed to grant citizenship to and protect the civil liberties of recently freed slaves. It did this by prohibiting states from denying or abridging the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States, depriving any person of his life, liberty, or property without due process of law, or denying to any person within their jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.

Jul 11th, 1798 - The US Marine Corps was formally re-established by "An Act for Establishing a Marine Corps" passed by Congress. The act also created the U.S. Marine Band. The Marines were first commissioned by the Continental Congress on November 10, 1775.
